Harry Fielding Reid photograph collection [graphic], 1890-1892.

The collection includes views of Glacier Bay, the surrounding mountains and glaciers, particularly Muir Glacier, Metlakatla and the Sitka Sound, taken during two trips by Reid, in 1890 and 1892. These early photographs are printed on 5.5" x 8" albumen paper mounted on 8"x 10" gilt-edged hardboard. Several photographs by J.F Morse, a member of Reid's 1890 party, are included. William O. Fielding, glaciologist, provided a comprehensive list of photographs taken by Reid and Morse containing additional information on each photograph.

Harry Fielding Reid, professor at Case School of Applied Science in Cleveland, Ohio, visited Glacier Bay in 1890 with a party of five men. In 1892 he returned and continued to survey the area. Reid received his Ph. D. from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, in 1894 and stayed to become professor of dynamic geology from 1896 until 1930 when he was appointed emeritus professor.
